Family
When you first step foot onto the grounds at IGC you will notice the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. International Gymnastics Camp has been family owned and operated since Bruno Klaus opened the doors in 1971. It is now under the second generation direction of Brent Klaus, Bruno’s son. Family is very important to the Klaus’ and every person who enters through the IGC gates is treated like a member of their family. Whether you are camper, parent, relative or staff you will feel the warm environment for which IGC is known.
Instruction
IGC is located on a 400 acre facility and is dedicated exclusively to gymnastics. Your children will be surrounded by other children with similar interests and discipline. Beginning through advanced level gymnasts have trained at IGC for the past 39 years. Our campers receive exceptional individualized gymnastics training in our five, state-of-the-art air conditioned gyms. Each coach has a maximum of 8 gymnasts under his/her direction, which enables the coach to discuss and set individual goals with each camper. All of our coaches are USAG safety certified and most are participating in our Professional Coaches Diploma Program which is the most extensive and of the highest standards anywhere in the world.
Recreation
Our campers participate in awesome, age specific recreation activities. We offer scary aerie (our climbing wall and zip line), jet skiing, spaceball, swimming, kayaking, miniature golf, dune buggies, cabin-of-the-week challenges and much more. New for 2009 – Laser Tag Forest and Recreation Challenge Area. All of the activities we offer are designed to help the campers meet new friends, learn new skills, develop self esteem and have fun! IGC provides a unique environment as our programs provide our campers with the perfect balance of gymnastics training and the traditional summer camp experience.
Safety
Safety is our #1 priority at International Gymnastics Camp. Every staff member at IGC has been pre-screened through background checks and is CPR and AED certified. IGC is the only gymnastics camp that is accredited by the American Camp Association. The ACA works with the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Red Cross and other child serving agencies to ensure that all camp programs, operations and direction reflect up to date research. This ensures the camp promotes positive development and enjoyment in a safe environment. We voluntarily go through a review of almost 300 standards, from staff training to emergency management, to ensure our continued accreditation.
If for some reason your child should experience an injury or become ill, IGC has a health center that is solely dedicated to taking care of your child. There is a registered nurse and certified athletic trainers in the health center at all times. The Athletic Trainers are also stationed in each gym during workouts for quicker response time in case of an injury or emergency.
Counselors
Our counselors are personally interviewed and hand selected for their personality, enthusiasm and desire to work with children. Each cabin has 2 counselors who spend the day and night with the campers. Most of our counselors are studying elementary or secondary education, child psychology or other related fields. Our counseling staff goes through an extensive initial training period as well as ongoing training, throughout the summer, that focuses on, but is not limited to, bullying, homesickness, building self esteem and fostering healthy independence.
