Staff Selection and Training

International Gymnastics Camp counselors are personally interviewed and specifically chosen for their personality, enthusiasm, experience, knowledge and desire to work with children. Most of our counselors are studying elementary or secondary education, child psychology or other related fields. All of our coaches have extensive gymnastics training experience and continually build their coaching skills. Specialty staff are trained and certified in their area of expertise.

International Gymnastics Camp’s counseling staff participates in an extensive initial training program as well as undergoing ongoing daily training throughout the summer. These training programs focus on a variety of youth development topics such as building self-esteem, fostering independence, eliminating bullying, managing homesickness and many other relevant topics.

International Gymnastics Camp hires coaching staff for their gymnastics expertise and experience, and also for their dedication to the continual improvement of their coaching and teaching skills.  Our coaching staff teaches campers to strive for excellence in the gym and in life itself. International Gymnastics Camp coaches are positive, supportive teachers who are committed to building campers’ skills and self-confidence. They will challenge campers to set goals and achieve their personal best.

All International Gymnastics Camp coaching staff continue throughout the summer to study the most up-to-date gymnastics techniques and style varieties. All coaches are enrolled in the Professional Coaches Diploma Program which is held every evening at IGC. The PCD program is designed to teach coaches a full range of technical skill development activities, coaching methods, and spotting techniques, in a safe and positively applied manner. The Professional Coaches Diploma Program is the Ivy League of coaching instruction. It is the most extensive professional development program available to gymnastics coaches, and adheres to the very highest standards.

International Gymnastics Camp Specialty Staff are chosen for their skill in a particular area of camp, and for their commitment to safety and camping excellence. Specialty Staff including registered nurses, athletic trainers, ropes course specialists, lifeguards, watercraft instructors, and food service workers are trained and certified in their respective fields.
